Most companies nowadays rely on website builders to establish their online presence. It makes sense, then, that the competition for creating the best website builders has been speedily increasing in later years.

Among the most popular and high-quality website-builder options, one can easily find both Editor X and Webflow. These are already household names, with a well-built reputation, and thousands of garnered clients.

Have you been wondering which one of these two would be the most suitable for your company?

Would you want to compare their ins and outs?

Do you want to properly understand both the Editor X and the Webflow site plans before you opt for one over the other?

keep on reading to find out the detailed review of Webflow and Editor X to decide which is the right one for you.

Editor X vs. Webflow: The Basics

Before delving into the details, however, it is essential to lay out the basics.

Editor X:

Editor X is a modern website building platform, which prioritizes two things: versatility of design, and variability of business-related tools.

It boasts a plethora of creative web design solutions, while also being optimized with different kinds of tools, such as e-commerce, marketing and booking systems, and a built-in IDE, with the end goal of tailoring the website to your particular business.

Editor X Homepage

Intuitive, forward-thinking, and sophisticated, Editor X relies on drag-and-drop and other similar solutions to help you simply and seamlessly integrate one of almost 1000, pre-existing website templates, or create a custom one, from scratch.

Established in 2020, Editor X falls under legendary Israeli software cloud-computing company Wix. As such, even though it’s relatively new, all businesses that have used it so far can testify to its quality.

Webflow:

Relying on both novel, creative technologies, as well as on more household names, such as Javascript and HTML, Webflow can proudly say that it has everything that a good website builder needs.

Not only that – Webflow takes all of it up a notch.

webflow homepage

Firstly, it does so by using its years’ long experience (it was established in 2013) in order to competently modernize and adapt its features to the needs of the current market. It has one of, if not the most visually appealing design solutions out there.

Secondly, it does so by being a content management system (CMS) in addition to being a simple website builder. This means that it specializes in the thorough processing of both front-end and back-end programs.

Editor X vs. Webflow: Site Plans

To begin with, we need to discuss the principal site plans of both website builders – where they are hosted, how they are designed, as well as the development section of the websites

Editor X Hosting:

Editor X allows for several different hosting plans.

To start with, you can create your website for free under their staging domain. Of course, your website’s URL will contain the “.editorx.io” link.

Similarly, Editor X allows for free direct cloud hosting from other servers, such as Google Cloud, for example, too.

It also allows for domain hosting, although that does not come as a free option. Editor X’s premium plan gives you one year of free domain hosting, either directly from Editor X, or from another provider, like Hostinger or Namecheap, for instance.

The Editor X premium plan starts at $17 per month.

Webflow Hosting:

Webflow does not come with a domain hosting option. However, it does allow you to redirect your website from your domain provider back to Webflow.

It does offer free hosting, though, and there are two different available options. The website URL will have the “.webflow.io” link, but perhaps it would be worth the deal since Webflow’s website speed and proficiency are known to be one of the best on the market.

Webflow hosting

Moreover, if opting for a premium plan, Webflow allows you to choose between a CMS and no-CMS-included option. The latter, starting at $12 per month, is, of course, significantly cheaper than the former, which starts at $16 per month.

Editor X Design:

Editor X features a unique and sleek interface, with a variety of design options. Starting out with the drag-and-drop notion, which allows for easy manipulation of elements, while creating your website, Editor X is extremely user-friendly, featuring recently introduced programs, such as Flexbox and CSS Grid.

Editor x Feature details

It allows you to add up to six breakpoints, automatically descending from higher to lower. You can also copy and paste to change the order of the breakpoints.

The only design drawbacks of Editor X are that you can’t use the Z-index, can’t access DOM, and can’t reuse the same element styles that you did before.

Webflow Design:

Webflow boasts a comprehensive and user-friendly design, with intuitive drag-and-drop options, and a wide variety of creative business-related tools to choose from when creating your website.

Webflow design

It operates with up to six breakpoints, going from higher to lower.

A good thing is that it enables full access to the Webflow DOM, as well as to CSS, which allows you to reuse element styles that you’ve created or customized before. From this, it also comes that all changes to your website’s design will automatically be made incredibly swiftly.

Editor X Web Development:

When it comes to web development, Editor X, as a subsidiary of Wix, has one significant advantage – the open development platform Velo (formerly Corvid).

Completely code-free, incredibly functional, and playfully interactive, Velo can make a professional web developer even out of the youngest novice out there. This is especially suited for small-business owners, or managers of start-ups, lacking a developed IT sector, or the budget to hire professional programmers.

Webflow custom code

Those that can afford development professionals can benefit from Velo too, as it allows for more creative choices in the hands of experienced people.

Webflow Web Development:

Webflow features a truly unique structure when it comes to the web development aspect of the website. Namely, it builds the site itself with HTML, it constructs the design specifications with CSS, and it makes the animations and tailored quirks with Javascript.

This means that it takes the best of all worlds, and it allows you to design a staggering, professional website with little-to-no knowledge of web programming and development techniques.

You can constantly review your site in the process of making it, and you can also employ additional, outside tools, such as GitHub or CSS Tricks, for example, to customize it additionally.

Editor X vs. Webflow: Transfer, Editing, and Communication

There’s more to being a website builder than just finding a host domain and creating the website, though. A good website builder should allow for a steady, swift flow of communication.

It should also be open to later changes and edits in the development or design structure. Finally, it should be responsive in cases when the owner wants to transfer the website to other users or clients.

So, how do Editor X and Webflow compare in this regard, you might ask? Here’s what each of the website builders brings to the table.

Editor X Transfer:

In Editor X, the transfer option is free and is easy to locate. Find the “Transfer Site” link and click on it.

Webflow Transfer:

In Webflow, the transfer option is dependent on you having opted for the Account Plan, which starts at $192 per year. Unfortunately, you cannot transfer your website to other clients for free.

Editor X Editing:

When it comes to editability, Editor X has the titular Editor option readily available. By relying on it, you can retroactively make any design changes to your already finished website.

However, in many cases, the Editor option in Editor X is not recommended to be handled by non-professional users, since small changes in one section of the finished website can result in unnecessary alterations in the entire interface, which an inexperienced user might have trouble dealing with.

Webflow Editing:

Webflow has prioritized the fluidity and user-friendliness of the website, so for that purpose, it divides its Editor function into two options: Designer and Editor. By opting for the former, you will have full control over the design changes of the whole website.

The latter option, however, is meant specifically for small changes, which you wouldn’t want to impact the rest of your website layout. As such, this is especially well suited for users who are not professional programmers or web developers.

Editor X Communication and Community:

When it comes to accessing your website as a team, Editor X, along with Wix, as a whole, easily allows for multiple people of the same company, or partner companies, to communicate and simultaneously operate on one website.

Editor X Communication and Community

Options such as the Wix Partner Program, Partner Dashboard, or Concurrent Editing exist for this exact purpose. Multiple roles can be assigned during the website design and editing process, such as administrator, web designer, etc.

Editor X Pricing Timeline

Webflow Communication and Community:

Webflow does not allow for a communication or collaboration option under the free version. In order for multiple people to have access to the website, you would need to purchase the Team Plan, which starts at $35 per person, per year.

Moreover, the Team Plan does not always allow for the two users to be using the platform simultaneously.

Editor X vs. Webflow: Applications, Commerce, and SEO

The final key aspect according to which website builders should be measured and compared is their business-oriented side: how they interact with the App Market, how they partake in e-commerce, and how they handle SEO requirements.

Editor X Applications:

While Editor X allows for the usage of third-party apps when it comes to applications, paid plans, marketing, promotions, and booking, it is also sufficiently optimized so that you can use integrated business solutions such as the ones outlined.

It also relies on the Wix App Market, which can provide suitable solutions and tools that are perfectly compatible with Editor X.

Webflow Applications:

Webflow can’t boast itself for having a high number of integrated applications, tools, and solutions for promotions, bookings, and marketing. It offers some, but they usually require a higher level of proficiency in coding in order to integrate properly.

However, Webflow is fully open to third-party app collaborations, so any suitable solution that you can find will work just as well.

Editor X E-commerce:

Editor X features an attached online store, which allows access to multiple subscriptions, bookings, events, and payments. It is easy to navigate, has an instant payout system, and accepts a wide variety of payment methods.

Webflow E-commerce:

Webflow has its own eCommerce subsection, which accepts an incredibly wide array of online payment options, and allows for the easy purchase of both digital and physical goods.

Editor X SEO:

Due to using Wix SEO Wiz, Editor X has a fully integrated SEO system, which would help you organize your text and use the necessary keywords and metadata in a way that will increase your text’s relevance on search engines.

When combined with the editing function, it can help organize your content by separating it into headings, and easily inserting visual media in a way that suits the SEO needs.

Webflow SEO:

Due to its years’ long experience, Webflow has managed to excel in this field. It has a sufficiently optimized SEO system, which will help you organize all of your information and your content in a suitable way, while also paying attention to matters such as social share images, or keywords that influence search engines.

Editor X vs. Webflow: The Final Verdict

All things considered, we would have to declare the Editor X vs. Webflow competition a draw.

Both website builders have an equal number of strengths and weaknesses, and in the main sections, they both deliver equally well.

While Editor X offers more integrated, smooth-flowing options that allow for faster and easier usage, Webflow’s longer presence on the market often makes it the more reliable and creative option.

Users of both website builders have shown an almost equal rate of satisfaction, meaning that there is no clear winner even when it comes to customer feedback.

Ultimately, choosing between them comes down to your own preference.
