What Are the Best Alternatives to Trello?

Trello is a popular project management tool that allows you to organize work tasks into visually appealing boards. Many users find this to be a great way to improve productivity and insight some creativity into their work environment. However, it is not perfect.

If you are reading this page, you probably have already decided to switch to a different Kanban software. Whether it is two reasons or 20, you should still go over some of the more popular motives for leaving Trello. That way, you can find a better Trello alternative

  • The interface is too simple
  • Difficult for team management
  • Keeps management to a minimum
  • Requires extra payment for basic features

When advocating for Trello, the software boasts that it has a simple interface. However, that is also one of its weaknesses. Since Trello keeps to a minimum, there is a limited number of cards you can post onto a task board. Additionally, the simplicity of the design may not work for all departments of your business. A list view or calendar view would be a helpful improvement.

Additionally, Trello does not allow more than one team member on assigned tasks. Project managers also have a hard time viewing completed tasks since there isn’t one compiled board of completed tasks.

Finally, one of the biggest issues Trello users have is that they must pay extra money for productive project management. This includes Gantt charts and calendars.

Overall, Trello is really restrictive in its presentation of tasks and the actual project management. When looking for alternatives, find programs with basic features that prioritize convenient visuals and complex project management.

In a hurry? Here is a compiled list of some Trello alternatives.

Pricing and Free Plan

When looking for an alternative to something that is already free, some people become skeptic. Therfore, the first thing we are going to look at is the pricing for the alternative project management software.

Trello, in its most basic plan, is free. However, as we have seen, the free plan is not the most resourceful. If you want to get better benefits, then you are going to have to upgrade to the Business Class price plan or the Enterprise plan. These are an additional fee added every month per user.

Let’s take a look at the pricing for the Trello alternatives.

Asana

asana homepage

Asana has a similar plan to Trello’s. It starts with a free basic plan for up to fifteen users. However, if you want to upgrade, you can step it up to $9.99 per month per user. You can also go for more additional features at $19.99 per month per user.

Asana Pricing Plan

Overall, Asana’s most expensive plan is two dollars more than the most expensive plan on Trello. Considering the level up you would be getting in features, the extra price is not that big of a deal. Plus, you may not even have to pay more if you stick with the smaller plans.

ClickUp

ClickUp’s pricing options are slightly different from Asana’s and Trello’s because the cost is a bit lower, and the features differ. ClickUp has three options—a free plan, a five-dollar unlimited plan, and a nine-dollar business plan.

The free plan comes with unlimited projects and people, a leg up on both Trello and Asana. The unlimited plan that costs five dollars per month per user has all the features of the first plan, as well as unlimited integrations. Finally, the nine-dollar business plan comes with all these features plus two-factor authentication and Google sign-on.

Jira

Jira is a popular Trello-like software, but it cannot be included in a list of free Trello alternatives. It comes with a cost. However, depending on your outlook and experience with Trello, this may not be an issue.

One of the good things, though, is that Jira offers a seven-day free trial before committing. That way, you can experience all its offerings before forking over your hard-earned money. Overall, the most basic plan is for one to ten team members. This costs $10 per month.

ProofHub

ProofHub, at first glance, seems like an expensive alternative to Trello. However, it strays away from the “per month per user” price plan and offers a monthly concrete cost.

There are two plans, and you have the option to be billed monthly or annually. The first plan is $45 per month if you choose to pay by the year. You can also opt for the Ultimate Control plan, which bills you $89 per month annually.

MeisterTask

MeisterTask starts with a free offering for an unlimited amount of team members and projects. The next step would be the Pro variant, costing $8.25 per month per user. Finally, the most advanced price plan—with the most features—is the Business variant, which costs $20.75 per month per user. One of the biggest appeals of the Business variant is that it offers more advanced account security.

Taiga

Taiga goes with the pattern of offering three price plans, the first of which is free. Taiga’s free plan only allows up to three members, one private project, and unlimited public projects.

If you want to upgrade your Taiga features to unlimited members and projects, the fee is five dollars per month per user when billed by the year. It is seven dollars per month per user if you go by the month.

You can opt for the highest Taiga pricing plan for better protection and enhanced security, beginning at $530 per month (but this is for up to 100 members).

Features

Of course, if you are going to switch from one software to another, it is essential to be aware of the features in the new one. Here are all the components to be mindful of in the Trello alternatives.

Conclusion

As you may have concluded from your own experiences, Trello is not the greatest tool for managing your team’s productivity. Yes, it has some benefits—like a minimalist interface—but its overall design does not boost productivity.

The alternatives listed above are great replacements if you feel that Trello has been holding you and your team members back. Most of the programs have access to a lot of integrations, which can enhance the way you complete tasks.

All in all, the features provided by Asana, ClickUp, Jira, ProofHub, MeisterTask, and Taiga serve as excellent alternatives. You can find that you increase your productivity simply by a change in design and layout. Plus, Taiga’s ability to import your task boards from Trello may make the transition process much simpler.

In conclusion, these alternatives exceed Trello, but you should take the time to find which one works best for your team.
